How To Wash Your Own Shirts

Perhaps the most economical fashion tip you will ever learn is how to wash your own shirts. Of course, taking your shirts to a dry cleaner is easier; you drop them off and they come back clean and crisp. However, washing them yourself is not only economical but virtually guarantees longevity. The typical cotton men’s shirt is not made to be dry-cleaned with harsh chemicals. Yet, dropping them in a home washing machine or even taking them to the coin machines down the hall takes a little practice. In fact, knowing how to wash a shirt is much more a matter of water temperature, soap and adequate soaking time than anything else.

Your most expensive shirts will last longer if you took the time to do them by hand. While you will have to take the time to care for them yourself, you will soon find that this time will become less and less each week as you progress in knowing how to care for your wardrobe. Thus, here are your best options for doing the job yourself and learning how to wash your own shirts.

WASH YOUR OWN SHIRTS: THE BASICS

Before you put soap and water to your shirts you must first read the care labels stitched inside. Designers and manufacturers actually do care about how you clean their garments and these labels are your guide. In fact, some shirts truly should be dry-cleaned only. If you don’t understand these symbols you should check out the extensive listing included in the AskMen.com Style Bible that categorizes and explains each symbol in detail. Your next step is to remove collar stays and button up the collar and a few chest buttons to prevent the shirt from becoming twisted and entwined in the machine’s agitator or with other garments that put far too much stress on the seams and fabric.
Wash your own shirts at home
A conventional washing machine is designed for convenience of use and not the preservation of your favorite shirt. Therefore, read the operating instructions and then wash your shirts on a delicate or hand-washable setting. This will slow down the revolutions and actions of the center agitator. Some newer machines do not use an agitator, however, you still want to use a lighter-action setting. Warm and cold water are best for maintaining a shirt with colors. White shirts will require hot water and a dash of real bleach from time to time to keep the collar clean and free of stain buildups. When possible, opt for a hypoallergenic, high-efficiency detergent without dyes or scents. All of those extra additives may seem appealing in a store but they break down the fibers in clothing and add an additional scent to your grooming regime. A color-safe bleach is appropriate for a shirt with color stitching or designs, but use these sparingly as well.Wash your own shirts in a hotel
Don’t be afraid to pack a little laundry detergent in your shaving kit when you travel. Many laundry detergent manufacturers now make a one-load size travel packet that meets the new airline rules for soaps and other toiletries. They are often sold in multipacks with an individual packet costing you less than one U.S. dollar. Larger department stores carry a variety of brands and you can often buy these in the sundry shops of larger hotels, but plan ahead and toss a few packets into your case anyway.

While these packets are made to use with a full-size machine, you can easily use them to wash a few shirts in your hotel bathroom tub or sink. First, brush off as much dirt and grime from the shirt as you can. Second, soak the shirt in lukewarm water. Remove the shirt from the water and mix in a few shakes of the detergent, but not the whole packet. Then, soak the shirt in the mix. Be careful with your hands, however, as you are using a chemical-based detergent. Carefully remove the shirt and rinse it under the shower head, or drain the sink or tub and soak it again in cold, clean water. Let the shirt dry on a hanger from the shower rod or over a towel in the closet. If you don’t have a detergent handy then use a little (mild) bar soap mixed into the water. This may not remove any stains, but it will clean the shirt and give you a fresh scent in the morning.

FASHION DIY

The other perk of sending your shirts out is that you never have to touch an iron, which is time-consuming. Yet, this too begins to pay for itself over time. Many cleaners and laundry services use too much heat and effectively burn the fabric of your shirts. Soon the seams, collar and cuffs will look faded giving your shirt an uneven finish.

By doing the ironing yourself you can control the levels of heat and starch. Begin with the collars and cuffs, move to the arms and then the trunk of the shirt. In time, you’ll learn how to do this without thinking. Ironing your shirt in your hotel room will be easy after you’ve washed it in the sink. Some rooms come with an iron and board but no starch, which only means you’ll have to use the spray and steam button on the iron. The creases will not hold as long but it’ll do for traveling.

Other hotels would prefer you to send your shirts and items to their laundry service -- but this is costly and risky. And yes, a travel iron is all you need. They are easy to pack, cheap, simple to use, and could be just the right size for your apartment or office. Once you know how to wash and care for your shirts at home the rest is just a matter of knowing what to pack.

Best Powder Proteins

Every man should have at least one jug of powder protein. The nutritionists out there may disagree with us, making the argument that powder proteins aren’t natural or necessary and that we can attain all the protein we need from natural foods. We wouldn’t disagree. The truth is, however, that we don’t. Here’s why: We eat too infrequently, we make poor food quality choices and we generally eat the wrong nutrients in the wrong quantities at the wrong times. Having powder protein can help supplement your diet by providing a quick and easy quality protein source.

Powder protein can generally be broken down into three types: whey, whey/casein blend and whey/simple carbohydrate blend. These protein choices each have their advantages (yes, after we state these advantages we’re going to get into which are the best powder proteins out there):

Whey:
Relatively inexpensive
Increases training-related fat loss if consumed immediately before or after training
Increases protein synthesis (building) if taken immediately before or after training
Rapidly digested and absorbed and, therefore, a quick source of protein
Whey/casein blend:
Provides rapidly digested and absorbed (whey) and more slowly digested and absorbed (casein) protein sources, creating a time-release delivery of quality protein
Superior to whey protein regarding increases in training-related fat loss when consumed immediately before or after training
Better option for “snacks” or additional meals (meal can be made somewhat complete by adding a fruit/vegetable and some nuts)
Whey/simple carb blend:
Whey protein and simple carbohydrates are the most rapidly digested and absorbed form of protein and carbs, respectively
Protein taken in conjunction with carbohydrates leads to substantially greater increases in protein synthesis compared to taking protein alone
The addition of carbohydrates improves delivery of protein to the muscle and helps replenish depleted glycogen (read: carbohydrate) stores within the body
Best option for men that are trying to gain muscle mass and/or doing high intensity conditioning.
With all that said, there are terrible quality powder proteins with great marketing campaigns. In the grand scheme of things, most people choose their protein based on the effectiveness of the marketing, not the product itself. Below are five of the best powder proteins of high quality from reputable, results-driven companies.

Met-Rx 100% Natural Whey
One of the major problems with supplements is that they aren’t regulated. Quite simply, this means that your supplements may not contain what the wrapper says they do. Research investigating the purity of supplements elucidated that as many as 15% to 20% of supplements have traces of some anabolics and/or prohormones (sufficient to make you fail a drug test). That’s a scary statistics. In general, the FDA retrospectively examines supplements after a certain complaint or suspicion level is reached, meaning it’s pretty easy for “tainted” supplements to pass under the radar.

Met-Rx powder proteins, however, are among a limited few that are NCAA compliant, meaning they hold themselves to high standards regarding the purity of the ingredients. One-hundred percent natural whey is a quality whey protein source, offering 23g per serving with 5g of BCAAs to help maximize the effectiveness of this supplement as a post-workout option.

CytoSport Cyto Gainer

CytoSport is another company with a pretty good reputation. Cyto Gainer is a high calorie (570 per serving) powder protein option. With 54 grams of protein and 75 grams of carbohydrates (including 4 grams of fiber), it’s well-suited for lean men who are hardgainers and need to get the extra calories in wherever they can.

Cyto Gainer includes a mix of rapidly digested protein, rapid and slowly digested carbohydrates, and a mix of vitamins and minerals, making it a great post-training supplement or near-breakfast meal replacement/supplement option.

CytoSport Muscle Milk

One of the most important qualities of a powder protein, and one that we haven’t mentioned up to this point, is the taste. When it comes to taste, CytoSport is known for having supplements that taste more like dessert than health food. Muscle Milk is no exception. It includes a whey and casein protein blend, which provides a quality mix of rapidly and more slowly digested/absorbed proteins. Muscle Milk also has 5 grams of fiber, which is a great addition for men that consume insufficient (less than 30 grams per day, which is almost all men) fiber in their diet.

Biotest Surge Recovery

Biotest has a reputation of transformation. The company’s high-quality powder protein supplements are often the “man behind the mirror” for men that train their way from scrawny to brawny. While marketed as a recovery supplement, Surge Recovery is one of the best muscle-building supplement options out there. If your stomach can permit it, one of the best options for taking this supplement is to consume half a serving immediately before you start training and half a serving immediately after. About mid-way through your training you’ll start to notice an energy boost, as the rapidly digested whey protein and simple carbohydrate enter the blood stream and are delivered to your muscles. Surge Recovery’s ingredients are optimal for facilitating recovery from brutal high-intensity training sessions and for maximizing muscle growth.
Biotest Low-Carb Metabolic Drive

If we could only pick one powder protein that we think every man should own, it’s this one. The flavor, especially chocolate, is second-to-none and makes for a great additional protein source in meals like oatmeal, cottage cheese, greek yogurt, and smoothies (all of which could be combined with peanut butter to make your meal taste like Reese’s).

Because Low-Carb Metabolic Drive includes a combination of whey and casein protein, and because it’s low in carbohydrates (by name), it’s the perfect option as part of an additional or supplemental meal for anytime of the day (high-carb meals should be avoided late in your day). It also boasts a quality amino acid profile, conducive to replenishing lost nutrients during training. Low-Carb Metabolic Drive can be taken anytime throughout the day as part of a supplemental meal, and before or after training to help facilitate fat loss, recovery and muscle building. It’s a great place to start for people that don’t want to diversify their protein powder portfolio.
PROTEIN ROTATION AND VEGAN OPTIONS
Regardless of your protein supplement of choice, it’s important to rotate both the type and the brand of protein you consume. Your body will eventually adapt to anything you take in and extended consumption of the same products can lead to a form of food allergy, with symptoms that range from irritation of your digestive system to stuffy noses. If you’re lactose intolerant or morally against milk-based proteins, TrueProtein.com offers a variety of non-milk-based proteins (e.g., soy, bean, rice, etc.) for you to choose from. Rotate your proteins among high-quality options and prime yourself for long-term success.

6 Healthy Habits For Living Longer

Do you eat breakfast everyday? Do you always take the stairs? Whatever your daily habits are, there’s no denying that they impact your health. Even though the things we do as part of our daily routines might seem small, over time the small things can add up. So, by keeping your daily habits healthy, you can literally add years to your life.

Here are six daily habits for living longer.

1- Always opt for exercise

Technology exists to make our lives easier, but it doesn't always make us healthier. Daily exercise, however, is a definite boon to health. In fact, studies suggest that daily exercise can add up to three years to your life. Although finding time for structured exercise can be pretty much impossible for many guys, the good news is that opportunity for exercise is everywhere -- just be creative. Whenever you can, walk to work. You don’t even have to walk the whole way. If you take public transit, just get off a few blocks sooner and enjoy a stroll. If you live or work in a high-rise building, just take the stairs. It’s really that simple.

2- Eat a healthy breakfast

Including breakfast in your daily routine is a great healthy habit for living longer. Over the years, researchers have found that those who eat an early morning meal are less likely to be obese and get diabetes compared with those who don’t. Breakfast-eaters also report feeling better both mentally and physically. All in all, it seems that eating breakfast is a great and healthy way to start your day. To get the full benefits of breakfast, though, the Mayo Clinic recommends a meal with carbs, protein and a small amount of fat. The key is to keep your meals varied to ensure you get a good mix of nutrients, so spice up your breakfast diet every once in a while.

3- Get enough sleep

A lack of quality sleep can shorten your life. At least that’s the conclusion drawn from a number of studies conducted over the past decade. Although it’s not entirely clear how many hours of sleep we really need, failing to get at least seven hours of sleep or only sleeping at odd hours appears to heighten the risk of major illnesses including cancer, heart disease, diabetes, and obesity. But it’s not just a lack of sleep that can be dangerous; a lack of relaxation can leave a lasting mark as well. We all know that stress and anxiety are killers, and so it follows that finding ways to relax each day can be a lifesaver. Whether it’s classical music, massage therapy or meditation, whatever you use to relax will most certainly add years to your life. It may even help you sleep better.

4- Brush and floss daily

Flossing can add 6.4 years to your life, says Dr. Michael Roizen in his book The RealAge Makeover. Although that estimate might be a little far-fetched, the thinking behind it is probably pretty sound. The reality is that poor oral hygiene can lead to nasty gum diseases like gingivitis and periodontitis. These inflammatory diseases can actually lead to a narrowing of the arteries, a common cause of cardiovascular disease. By simply brushing and flossing daily, we rid our mouths of the bacteria that cause inflammatory gum disease and save our heart a little bit of trouble.

5- Stay in touch with friends

There’s an old saying that says a good friend is cheaper than therapy. Oddly enough, researchers now hold this to be true, though it’s not just about friends; any social network, whether it be through church, a sports club or cooking class, can positively impact your physical and mental well-being. Social networks can provide us with useful information, like encouragement to go see a doctor; they can give physical support, like helping us run errands; and they can provide emotional support, like listening to our problems to help us overcome depression and anxiety. All of these seemingly minor perks can literally add years to our lives.

6- Stay hydrated

Our bodies are nearly 70% water, so it should come as no surprise that water is essential to maintaining health and prolonging life. We use water to regulate body temperature, protect our joints and organs, and to help transport oxygen to cells. But in order for water to keep our bodies in check, we need to make sure that its levels are constantly replenished. The solution is simple: hydrate. Although the common prescription of drinking eight eight-ounce glasses of water per day has been called a myth, the message isn’t necessarily a bad one. As long as you hydrate frequently, from various sources, not just water, you’re probably in the clear. Let your thirst be your guide and drink to life!
MAKING DAILY HABITS COUNT
Many of us are set in our daily routines. We eat the same meal, wear the same clothes, take the same route to work, and work the same old job. But what we sometimes fail to recognize is the huge impact that our daily routines can have on our health. By making just a few small changes here and there -- and sticking to them -- you can add a significant number of years to your life. Although change isn’t always easy, it can be done. Set small goals, ease in changes one at a time and it won’t be long before you notice a positive change to your health and mood.

6 Ways To Wear A T-Shirt

Like a pair of jeans, the humble T-shirt is the go-to item of a man’s wardrobe; they are the building blocks that you can take in any direction you please, dressing them up or down depending on the occasion. Of course, when it comes to T-shirts, what’s in vogue changes on a regular basis. This means that while some pieces in this category are classics, others are more transient, shifting in popularity according to the fashion zeitgeist. Whether they’re timeless or trendy, to find out which T-shirts should be in your wardrobe right now read on.

1. The polo T-shirt
Once upon a time, polo shirts were the domain of golfers and prepsters. Everything changed when successful advertising campaigns by companies like Ralph Lauren and Lacoste made us all realize how incredibly versatile this piece was. Nowadays, everyone owns -- or ought to own -- a polo. No matter what your style, a polo will be a useful addition to your wardrobe that you’ll be able to adapt to your unique look. During the summer months, try it in a playful, ultra bright shade like this multi-striped version from Lacoste. The only thing you need to remember is that while preppy equals polished, you want to avoid wearing it head to toe.
Wear it with: White trousers in the summer and your own accessories.

2. The nautical tee

Beloved from New England to Europe, the nautical tee successfully combines fashion with function. Whether you’re down at the docks or chilling on a yacht, a nautical tee will stand you in good stead. Like this long-sleeved model from Ralph Lauren, you’ll want to get yours in lightweight cotton, which can be thrown straight into the wash in order to maximize its usage. Even if you don’t have a perfect physique, don’t be put off by wearing horizontal stripes as these are some of the most flattering lines you’ll ever come across. There’s only one caveat: This shirt is the definition of easy summer living, so don’t even think about wearing it in the winter.

Wear it with: It’s stunning with white, so dress it up with a white blazer or keep it casual with cotton shorts.

3. The graphic T-shirt
Having made a major impact on the T-shirt market when it first appeared, the graphic tee remains a wardrobe must-have for stylish men from Johannesburg to Jacksonville. To be able to wear your graphic T-shirt with practically everything in your wardrobe, you’ll want to stick to a reasonably abstract pattern such as this ship mast image on Toddland’s super soft cotton crew neck.

Wear it with: Make a graphic statement by mixing this T-shirt with gray jeans or corduroys, and throw on a blazer for funky, fuss-free style on a wild night out.

4. The sports T-shirt

While you can’t get away with wearing your favorite player’s jersey on a regular basis as it’s neither acceptable office wear nor particularly stylish, you can show your love for the game at work by playing with a carefully chosen sports tee. Retro Sport is one label that makes fantastic vintage-inspired T-shirts featuring logos from old-school sporting teams. Football fans can pledge their allegiance to the sport without compromising their style with this T-shirt from the Los Angeles bulldogs, who competed from 1936 to 1948.

Wear it with: Slim fitting jeans and canvas sneakers.

5. The deep V-neck T-shirt

While a V-shaped neckline is never really outdated, you can increase the style quotient of your ensemble by choosing a tee with a deep V-neck rather than the standard collarbone length style. This 50% cotton and 50% modal version from Daftbird is seasonless and will slim a less-than-ideal shape, making it appear more masculine. At the same time, the neckline isn’t so low that you’ll feel cheesy in it or like you’re contemplating entering a cleavage competition.

Wear it with: Blazers make it smarter, cuffed denim keeps it casual and layering a cardigan over it takes it into fall.

6. The granddad T-shirt

Essentially a short-sleeve Henley, the granddad tee is reminiscent of those long-sleeve thermals your old man’s old man wore. Thankfully, this time around they have been updated with a more flattering fit and you won’t be restricted to wearing them exclusively as an undergarment. This dark-navy option from G-Star is cut to skim the body and show off a gym-toned physique to its full advantage without being skin tight.

Wear it with: Denim or pressed cotton pants. In colder months, layer it underneath a plaid shirt to try out the American revival trend.

BUILDING BLOCKS
You probably wear them so often you barely think about them, but the introduction of the T-shirt initiated a style revolution -- just think about what it did for stars like James Dean and Steve McQueen and its power will become crystal clear. Universally appealing thanks to their relatively low cost, high comfort and sheer versatility, T-shirts can be worn in an endless number of ways and are the perfect budget-conscious way to revitalize your wardrobe this season and the next.

Top 10: Habits That Improve Your Appearance

The desire to look good is in our nature as human beings. After all, attractive people are more popular with members of the opposite sex and some studies suggest they're financially more successful, too. Of course, there are an overwhelming number of things and products you can try in your quest to be the best version of yourself. What really works, however, are these top 10 habits that improve your appearance. Adopt these habits today and you'll see a noticeable improvement in your appearance in two weeks' time.

No.10 - Change your bedsheets
Dirty pillow cases are a prime reason for breakouts, so switching your sheets once a week will reduce your skin's contact with pore-clogging grime. It's particularly important to lay out some fresh bedding if you frequently have a female in your bed, as residue from women's makeup and hair products can get left behind on your sheets and subsequently be transferred to your face

No.9 - Shampoo no more than once a day
Ideally, you should wash your hair no more than a few times a week as over-shampooing can strip your hair of its natural oils, leaving it dull and brittle. If you're a regular exerciser, however, you can't get around lathering up on a daily basis, so make sure to follow up with an intensive conditioner. For men who can't get morning workouts in, skip the shampoo session if you shower in the a.m. and suds up only after you exercise later in the day.

No.8 - Floss every day and whiten teeth every six months
For a more attractive smile, nothing beats regular flossing as it gets rid of any unsightly buildup between your teeth. Take things one step further by using a drugstore whitening kit, which will do an excellent job of noticeably, but not freakishly, lightening the color of your teeth. Just make sure you whiten no more than once every six months or you could develop sensitive gums. For a week after whitening, avoid consuming products that could stain your teeth, such as red wine, coffee and soy sauce, and brush your teeth as soon as you can if you slip up.

No.7 - See a barber every three to six weeks
Keeping your hair trimmed is an easy way to ensure that you always look polished. It's also typically inexpensive and quick. Once you've found a barber you like, stick with him so that he'll always get it right when you come in for a cut.

No.6 - Shave after showering
Steaming up your bathroom is a bit like creating your own personal sauna. This humid environment will open up your pores, make your facial hair softer and plumper, and prime your follicles, all of which will reduce your chances of developing ingrown hairs and experiencing razor burn. If you don't have time for a shower, create a hot compress by soaking a face towel in hot water and then applying it to your face for two to three minutes.

No.5 - Cleanse, moisturize, apply eye care cream, and use lip balm every morning
A basic skin care routine is an absolute must for improving your appearance. Start with a mild cleanser, preferably one with a 2% concentration of salicylic acid to help zap zits. Follow it up two to three times a week with an exfoliant to really get the gunk out of your skin and slough off dead cells. Next, apply a moisturizer that contains a broad-spectrum SPF to replenish your skin's moisture levels and prevent aging related to sun damage. Then dab on an eye cream, working from the outside in toward the center of your face, to hydrate and keep the thin skin in this region supple. Finally, slick on a lip balm with an SPF of 15 to keep your lips soft, smooth and kissable

No.4 - Avoid sugar and simple carbs
A diet that's high in lean protein, vegetables, slow-digesting grains, and healthy fats is one that will reduce bloating in your belly and decrease any puffiness in your face. Furthermore, steering clear of sugar and simple carbs will go a long way toward eliminating acne or keeping it at bay as junk food, even in moderate amounts, is a common cause of troubled skin.

No.3 - Get eight hours of sleep
Those seven to nine hours that you should be spending unconscious every day are when your body repairs itself. Skimping on this vital restorative process makes your entire system run less efficiently, and the signs of sleep deprivation show up on your face first. In fact, all it takes is a few nights without enough sleep before you start looking like a haggard zombie. On the other hand, prioritizing sleep will guarantee you appear refreshed and alert and it will also decrease puffy eyes and unflattering dark circles.

No.2 - Drink eight glasses of water a day
Staying hydrated keeps you healthy and reduces the appearance of wrinkles. Sipping water slowly rather than pounding it also makes it easier for your body to absorb. Additionally, be mindful of your caffeine and alcohol intake. Both substances are diuretics, meaning they cause your body to release water, which can translate into pasty, dry skin and more visible fine lines. Offset your consumption of these beverages by drinking an 8oz glass of water for each caffeinated or alcoholic drink you
indulge in.

No.1 - Consider exercise non-negotiable
The No. 1 way to improve your appearance is to get fit. Start thinking of exercise as a must-do item on your to-do list and you'll slow down the aging process, get better-looking skin, increase your confidence, and on top of everything, you'll feel amazing. Engage in physical activity in the morning, and you'll benefit further by burning more fat and kicking off your day with a feel-good endorphin rush. An early sweat session will also boost your circulation, so you'll have clear, bright skin all day long -- a potent sign to women that you're a virile, healthy bedmate.

Top 10: Common Grooming Mistakes

No.10 - Sporting too much cologne
Too much of a good thing can spell disaster and that couldn’t be more true than with cologne. A few extra spritzes can turn even the subtlest of scents into a cloud of noxious fumes. All you need is two to three sprays in the right places. Targeting pulse points on the wrists and behind the ears should be enough to keep you going all day (and night).

No.9 - Not using moisturizer
Growing a proverbial thick skin is great thing for survival in a crazy world, but going the literal route by forgoing moisturizer could kill your chances for fighting fine lines and wrinkles. Male skin may look tough, but it’s so fickle that a simple shower can leave it dry and cracked like drought-ridden earth. Irritation from shaving just adds fuel to the fire. A lightweight moisturizer with a hint of SPF should be applied daily to the face and neck to replenish water content, soothe skin and provide protection from the elements.

No.8 - Dirty, uncut nails
While startling, the sight of a well-groomed man with overgrown, cracked nails is not terribly uncommon. Nails should always be clipped short but never so short as to expose the nail bed, which can be an incredibly painful experience. And get over any reservations you may have about manicures and pedicures. Forgoing regular nail care by a professional can lead to uneven nail growth and unsightly fungal infections. It’s essential to treat yourself once every four to six weeks in order to get your nails clipped and filed properly, and most importantly, have your cuticles trimmed down. You can skip the polish.

No.7 - Dry shaving
Despite advances in electric razor technology, dry shaving is still rough stuff. Most men neglect to exfoliate and use proper lubrication when going dry, which can result in razor burn, ingrown hairs and a shave that isn’t as close as it should be. Shave during or after a shower when the beard is softest, and apply an exfoliating face wash to clear away dirt and debris. Then, most importantly, use shaving gel and a clean razor to get the maximum shave with minimal irritation.

No.6 - Using worn-out razors
Disposable razors are just that: disposable. The problem is that even the most experienced shavers forget that the cartridges have a relatively short lifespan of roughly two weeks. Using a blade past its expiration date can wreak havoc on your face by unevenly ripping hairs out of the follicle and leaving burned, bleeding skin in its wake. A healthy blade should glide along the face and cut with painless precision. Fortunately, today’s best razors have an indicator strip at the top that lets you know when its day of reckoning is near.

No.5 - Using too much hair gel
The only thing worse than using no product at all is piling on enough to turn your head into a helmet -- the sound of crunchy hair is one that’s better left in the late '80s. Gloppy gels are child’s play and don’t leave much room for movement, so go for lighter pastes and putties that create shape and definition while still maintaining a natural appearance.

No.4 - Ignoring thinning hair
Only a few lucky men will never have to face the facts of life with thinning hair. Male pattern baldness can start in your 20s and progress at a steady rate of 4% a year until you're left with patchy growth or nothing at all. The right haircut can minimize the appearance of bald spots, but it’s not going to stop the path of destruction. Surprisingly, over-the-counter serums and foams with the chemical Minoxidil are proven to slow down the process and even regrow hair in many cases. If that’s not enough to cut your losses, talk to a dermatologist about prescription treatments. And when all else fails, shave it clean.

No.3 - Ignoring nose and ear hair
Almost everything you do in life, from careers to dating, requires you to sell your face. And the most distracting (and nauseating) thing to look at is overgrown nose and ear hair. These hairs are important for filtering debris and ultimately keeping the body healthy, but they cease to have any purpose when they make an unwanted outdoor cameo. Use a small grooming scissor to keep the crowd at bay.

No.2 - Unkempt facial hair
Treating your beard like a summer camp arts and crafts project is the quickest way to looking like an artist rendering on America’s Most Wanted. If you have a thing for perpetual scruff, you can keep your mane tame without looking like a criminal. Shave just up to the jaw line to create a look that is neat yet effortless. A few extra days' worth of growth is fine, but don’t let your beard achieve mountain-man proportions. And if it takes too much of your time to maintain a five o’clock shadow, a beard probably isn’t for you.

No.1 - Letting body hair run wild
Hair on the body is an undeniable outward expression of masculinity. But there comes a point when a jungle of hair needs to be pruned back. Invest in a trimmer with adjustable settings and clip hair especially on the chest and stomach to an appropriate but natural-looking length. You can avoid getting stark lines of demarcation by making use of the variable settings. It takes a little practice to get it right, but trimming body hair ultimately makes the difference between being a beauty or a beast when you wear an open collar.

Men's Underwear Dos And Don'ts

MEN'S UNDERWEAR DOS
Do replace old underwear
We’ve heard the statistic tossed around that eight years is the average length of time it takes men to replace their underwear. Whether or not that’s accurate (and we hope it’s not, frankly), no matter how long it takes you to replenish supplies, once a pair has seen better days -- a small hole, a tiny rip, a little fray -- toss it in the trash. Is this a heavy price to pay for a relatively negligible imperfection? Maybe. But wear and tear with underwear is a dangerously slippery slope. And as for those lucky boxers you’ve been holding onto since your dorm days, clear a space in your sock drawer and lay them to rest -- forever.
Do have a collection of men's underwear
Men should have at least 10 pairs of underwear on hand at all times. That’s one for everyday of the week plus two additional for weekend nights and another thrown in for good measure or some sort of, um, emergency. Active guys -- the workout buffs, outdoor types and all-around heavy sweaters -- will need a few more to meet their needs. The opposite isn’t true for couch potatoes: Sitting around all day doesn’t mean you can get away with fewer.
Do find your brand
Variety is the spice of life, except, perhaps, when it comes to men's underwear. It can be difficult to find a brand that fits just right -- one that holds the goods in place without being too tight or too loose. But once you happen to stumble upon the right kind, it’s a good idea to stock up. Sure, you can go wild with different colors, super comfortable eco-friendly fabrics and maybe even a print or two. But your best bet is to always stay loyal to a single name that you know works for you. Besides, do you really want to be spending that much time shopping for underwear?
Do wear a variety of styles
So, while being a one-brand man is a definite do, it’s also important to have an assortment of men's underwear for various activities. Briefs provide the right support for almost every situation from bar to boardroom. But sometimes you just need to set things free come bedtime with a looser-fitting boxer. And then, of course, there’s the hybrid known as the boxer-brief, an ideal way to get both support and coverage for a hardcore workout. Keep each set separate so you always have the right pair ready to rumble.
Do wash your underwear every time
Did you know that dirty drawers typically carry up to a gram of fecal matter? Sick. Fortunately, the answer to keeping clean isn’t wearing a disposable diaper. Loose-fitting boxers won’t get you an extra day’s worth of wear either. Underwear should be washed after each use, period. Use regular bleach if we’re talking whites since it packs a heftier punch than the color-safe kind.

MEN'S UNDERWEAR DON'TS

Don't go commando
Freeballin’. Letting loose. Living large. Call it what you want, but opting out of undergarments is never acceptable. Sure, a cool breeze down there would be more than welcome on a sizzling hot summer day. But the risk of raising the flagpole in public is just too high -- not to mention the gnarly nether-region germs you would be rubbing directly on to your clothing.
Don't wear man-panties
The high-cut, hip-hugging bikini brief was created to up the ante in sex appeal. Oddly enough, it can do just the opposite. Men’s underwear should always look like it was made for a man. If you have to wonder, keep on shopping. And yes, this rule applies to everyone -- European, gay or otherwise.
Don't tolerate stains
Underwear isn’t limited to a discussion about briefs and boxers; it includes beaters and T-shirts too. Sporting either of those with a gruesome golden pit is enough to turn a stomach or two. The yellowish tinge comes from the urea in sweat, the same waste product found in urine. Sadly, getting your T-shirts white again is nearly impossible. Chalk it up to an active lifestyle or overly enthusiastic sweat glands and buy some new white undershirts at the first sign of discoloration.
Don't wear boxers under trousers
Boxer shorts have their rightful place in your underclothing collection. They’re great for sleeping, and if you’re partial to putting a little more swing in your step, boxers are fine with jeans. But during the 9-to-5 grind, stuffing a bulky, baggy boxer short into finely tailored trousers is far from flattering. Suiting up calls for more refined undergarments, ones that don’t require an extra tuck or tug.
Don't show off your underwear
Designer drawers came to life around the same time Marky Mark decided it was cool to drop trou with Calvins. Well, you aren’t Mr. Wahlberg and this isn’t 1991. Conceal your tighty whities (or similarly distinguished boxers) and let them show when it really counts: behind closed doors.
MEN'S UNDERWEAR RULES
The next time you’re pressed to get dressed, remember one thing: The better your underwear looks on, the greater chance she will want to take it off.

Men's Skin Care

“These faces in the mirrors are but the shadows and phantoms of myself.”
-Henry Wadsworth Longfellow

It is often said by medical professionals that your skin is the largest organ you have because it not only serves as a protective layer against the elements, but also breathes and perspires to provide overall temperature control for your body. More importantly, however, your skin often reveals a great deal about your general health and diet through simple observation, conclusions that might take multiple medical tests to reveal. As such, in order to look your best, men's skin care involves more than just proper grooming; it requires an investment in your health and longevity. This involves the use of hypoallergenic cleansers to wash away dead skin (along with dust and dirt) as well as the appropriate moisturizers and sunscreens to protect your skin against UV radiation and dryness.
MEN'S SKIN CARE ON AM
Although men traditionally spend less time caring for their skin than women do, they spend more time damaging their skin through outdoor activities and hazardous work conditions. This is why AskMen.com regularly compiles, reviews and offers tips on the latest men's skin care products. These include moisturizers, lotions to relieve puffy eyes after long nights, sunscreens, cleansers, and more. You will also find related items such as shaving techniques to help you get a better shave while minimizing razor burn and cuts, as well as aftershave balms and pre-shave lotions for men with sensitive skin or those using electric shavers.

MEN'S SKIN CARE FACT
The human body has approximately 19,000 skin cells per square inch.

Get Better Skin In 5 Steps

Men’s skin care has come a long way from the days when your father would wash his face with a withered bar of soap and cover up shaving nicks with bits of toilet paper. Today, there are an overwhelming amount of products specially formulated to meet the needs of the stubborn (and stubbly) male epidermis. But navigating your way through the glut of grooming goods out there doesn’t have to be intimidating, and it shouldn’t be fussy either; a winning skin care regimen should be swift and simple to ensure that you'll actually follow it. You can check your 12-step program at the bathroom door, because achieving better skin takes just five tips.
1- Cleanse
If you do nothing else, cleansing is the single most important thing you can do for your face. It should be the basis of your skin care regimen, but that doesn’t mean reaching for a simple bar of soap (which can overcompensate and leave your skin dryer than a desert). Men’s skin typically has large pores and very active sebaceous glands. While these glands are critical for keeping the skin naturally moist, they can often produce too much sebum, leaving your skin feeling greasier than an oil slick. Neglecting to wash away the excess oil and dirt can clog pores, which leaves the skin prone to breakouts. A basic gel works just fine, but not all facial cleansers are created equal. Look for one that is strong enough to cut through the grease and yet gentle and affordable enough to be used at least once a day.
2- Exfoliate
Sometimes cleaning the skin with a simple face wash just isn’t enough. A cleanser washes away oil and dirt on the surface, but what about all that nasty stuff deep down in your pores? Even religious use of a face wash will still leave the most men's skin feeling like a bumpy mess. That’s where exfoliation should make an appearance in your skin routine (just two to three times a week). It helps dislodge debris that normal washing can’t touch. A good scrub should have granules to help smooth the skin and eliminate the dullness that results from normal pore clogging and dirt build-up. Exfoliation also softens hair follicles for a closer, less-irritating shave and allows the skin to better absorb moisturizers.
3- Moisturize
Skin care for most men starts and stops with a basic bar of soap or cleanser. But washing is the absolute least you can do to prevent your face from turning into a big blackhead. Even if you happen to live in a sauna, skin can get dry after showering and, over time, that godforsaken process known as aging makes it lose elasticity. Add all that to the horror of placing a sharp blade next to your face everyday to appease rigid HR standards for clean-cut wholesomeness, and you have a recipe for irritated skin that’s parched and taut. Showering and shaving open up pores and allow precious water to escape, but a light moisturizer can fix everything. It replenishes the skin’s moisture content and prevents razor burn. A moisturizer with SPF will also provide a critical shield against the sun. Harsh UVB rays cause the skin to burn, but it’s the UVA rays that lead to long-term damage like deep lines and skin cancer. A moisturizer with multispectrum defense takes care of it all.
4- Protect your eyes
There is one place on the face that men almost never touch: the eyes. But the skin around the eyes is the only area that actually deserves special attention, because men don’t age the same way that women do. Instead of a slow progression of fine lines and wrinkles, men's aging occurs in quantum leaps, and one of the first visible signs of aging comes from the skin around the eyes. The soft, thin layer of skin that surrounds the eye is especially prone to developing creases and crinkles long before other parts of the body begin to show their age. All of this can be prevented with regular use of an eye cream. It smooths and protects the skin, but requires serious commitment and proper usage. Applying eye cream once in a blue moon does nothing, and against all common sense, it shouldn’t be put on the soft skin underneath the eye. Instead, eye cream needs to be dabbed gently on the edge of the bone around the eye to maximize effectiveness and prevent irritation. It will slowly absorb and spread to the fragile areas that need it most.
5- Protect your lips
A close second in fickleness to the skin around the eyes are the lips. The skin here is incredibly thin and prone to severe dryness, cracking, bleeding, and burning from exposure to the elements. That’s because the lips lack both oil glands to keep them naturally moist and melanin to provide protection against harmful UV rays. A little dryness and flaking every now and then sounds like no big deal, but over time the combination of sun exposure, stress and a small cut can lead to nasty cold sores. Herpes simplex, anyone? Forget first base. You can’t even leave the dugout with contagious crap like that on your face. Regular application of lip balm with a hint of SPF once a day can help you avoid a life of being benched.

Top 10: Anti-Aging Products Every Man Should Own

Aging is an inevitable process. The fact that it's natural, however, is not an excuse to look old while you're still in the prime of your life. To fight the aging process effectively requires adopting certain habits and adding a few products to your grooming arsenal. Here we bring you the top products that will help you cheat the aging process and keep your body, skin and hair in peak condition.

Start with No.10

No.10 - Scalp stimulant/hair revitalizer
Why they fight the aging process: A head of thick, lustrous hair signifies vitality. Products designed to combat thinning hair do so either by stimulating the scalp to encourage hair growth or by improving the quality of the hair you still have so that it appears fuller and more abundant. Either way, these products make the most of the mane you have, particularly if you're in the early stages of hair loss.

How to use them: The frequency with which you'll need to a use hair-growth treatment will vary from product to product. You'll almost certainly require more than one application, however, and you'll have use the product regularly to maintain its results.

No.9 - Multivitamins
Why they fight the aging process: Vitamins are micronutrients your body is not able to manufacture on its own, so they must be derived from outside sources. These micronutrients work from the inside out by feeding your cells, resulting in healthy skin when consumed in adequate quantities. Additionally, some vitamins prevent and repair cellular damage by neutralizing harmful free radicals, thereby slowing aging.

How to use them: The best way to get your vitamins, of course, is by filling your plate with plenty of fresh raw fruits and vegetables. Unfortunately, busy lives often leave us little time to prep food, which means that popping a multivitamin every day can help increase your chances of giving your body what it needs to function at its best. I'm Victor Yanes specially recommend my own personals vitamins

it's a 3 months suplly full of
Antioxidants = Sun, pollution and stress can all lead to breakouts. The powerful antioxidants found in VitaClear® include high-quality vitamins A, C, E, plus a balanced blend of Beta Carotene and other nutrients to help support healthy skin.*
B Complex = Believed to play a key role in maintaining healthy-looking skin, B vitamins also help reduce stress and boost your overall energy — adding to your physical strength, as well as your mental alertness.
Energizer = A diet that includes the recommended 4-5 daily servings of fruits and vegetables will keep your skin healthy and vibrant. But many of us don't get enough of these nutrients in our diet. Our SuperJuice vitamin is designed to help supply whole food nutrition in just one tablet.*
Mineral Compound = Our specially formulated mineral supplement is designed to help maintain clear skin, promote a healthy immune system and support a strong body from head to toe.* you can get them here

No.8 - Exfoliant
Why it fights the aging process: An exfoliant is any product that sloughs off dead skin cells and helps unclog pores. Removing all the gunk from your skin will reveal a new layer of cells, meaning your epidermis will be visibly brighter and younger looking.

How to use it: The skin cell turnover cycle takes approximately 28 days, so don't exfoliate more than about twice a month. When selecting an exofoliant, search for a product with fine grains as it will be gentle and won't scratch your skin. For more mature skin, exfoliants containing alpha- or beta-hydroxy acids are a smart choice.

No.7 - High-quality razor and shaving cream
Why they fight the aging process: While gray facial hair can look distinguished on an older man, it's unflatteringly aging on anyone under 45. Adopting a fuzz-free look will shave a few years off your mug. A clean-shave should also be coupled with soft skin, another sign of youth.

How to use them: Depending on how fast your facial hair grows, you'll need to shave anywhere from daily to once a week. For super-soft skin, invest in a razor from a reputable brand (like the Gillette Fusion) and spend a little extra on an emollient-rich shaving cream, too.

No.6 - Eye cream
Why it fights the aging process: Eye cream is designed to hydrate and deliver nutrients to the sensitive, thin skin around your eyes, where wrinkles often first appear. Top products either plump up skin to minimize the appearance of any fine lines you presently have or target the cell turnover process to slow the formation of future wrinkles.

How to use it: Use an eye cream twice daily -- once in the morning and again before bed. A light touch is needed when applying this product as stretching out your skin will encourage wrinkles rather than get rid of them. Dab on eye cream by moving in semicircles toward your nose underneath your eye and on your lids. Store this stuff in the fridge if you also want to depuff under-eye bags and wake up tired eyes. If your like myself who don't get enough sleep for been in front the computer I personally recommend my favorite NIVEA For Men eye roller gel it's very effective.

What do you get?
A cooling effect that revives tired eyes
A fast absorbing formula that visibly reduce dark circles and fine lines.

No.5 - Antioxidant moisturizer
Why it fights the aging process: As we age, our skin becomes more dry. A moisturizer that's full of antioxidants will not only drench the upper layers of your epidermis with a hydrating tonic but will also pump nourishing ingredients into your cells, helping skin retain its youthful elasticity.

How to use it: Seek out moisturizers with high doses of ingredients like resveratrol, as well as vitamins A, C and E. You'll know if the product you're considering purchasing has a hefty dose of antioxidants if you find one in the first five ingredients listed on the packaging. Once you settle on a moisturizer, apply it twice daily, once in the morning and again before bed.

No.4 - Good reusable water bottle
Why it fights the aging process: Dehydration leads to parched, wrinkle-ridden skin. In fact, if you've ever noticed fine lines around your eyes that seem to appear and disappear, it's a sure sign you're not getting enough H2O. Staying hydrated is, therefore, essential to ensuring plump, youthful skin cells.

How to use it: Down 8 8-oz glasses of fluid a day for optimum cell function. Active men should drink more than this minimum. To make sure you're getting all the water you need, purchase a reusable water bottle, fill it up in the morning and sip from it throughout the day. Non-plastic bottles are ideal, though you can safely consume water from bottles made out of No. 2, No. 4 or No. 5 plastics.

No.3 - Great mattress
Why it fights the aging process: Sleep is when the body repairs itself, which means that it only takes a couple of nights of deprivation to leave you with dark circles, red eyes and a generally haggard appearance. To make your slumber as restorative as possible, it's worth shelling out for an amazing mattress and making sleep a priority.

How to use it: Aim for seven to nine hours of shut-eye to wake up looking refreshed and invigorated. A mattress that offers superior back support will also help make your sleep more comfortable by reducing the tossing and turning that can accompany a bad bed.

No.2 - Sunscreen and sunglasses
Why they fight the aging process: One of the top ways to slow down the aging process or lessen its effects is to use sunscreen religiously and don sunglasses every time you step outside, even when the sun isn't bright. While the combination of sunscreen and sunglasses won't magically get rid of any wrinkles you already have, it works by preventing future skin damage from occurring.

How to use them: Slather sunscreen on in the morning and reapply periodically throughout the day if you spend a lot of time outdoors. While pale guys will need a sunscreen with an SPF of 30 or more, very dark-skinned men can get away with using SPF 15 or SPF 20 products. Finally, buy your sunglasses from a label you trust so that you know the lenses will effectively block harmful UV rays.

No.1 - Weights and exercise equipment
Why they fight the aging process: The No. 1 way to stay young and improve your appearance, both in mind and body, is to exercise four to six times a week. Sweat sessions keep your DNA young, which translates into looking younger than your real age.

How to use them: Aim for 30 minutes to 1 hour of heart-pounding workouts almost every day. When you lift weights, avoid doing so on consecutive days to give your muscles time to repair and grow. Also, making a commitment to working out is important for reaping the age-reducing effects of exercise as regular workouts increase the body's antioxidant defense system while sporadic activity actually promotes the generation of aging-free radicals

When Dolce&Gabbana models say it in 3 words

Stefano Gabbana, Domenico Dolce and Dolce&Gabbana = a magic triangle, described by catwalk stars.

This June, Stefano and Domenico are celebrating 20 years of menswear creative collaboration, on this occasion it seemed relevant to figure out how the Dolce&Gabbana Man is perceived today. Who better than Dolce&Gabbana models to describe the role they take on when they run down the catwalk. "Strong, elegant, sophisticated" seems to be the common answer from big catwalk names such as Natasha Poly, David Gandy, Garrett Neff, Heidi Mount, Luis Kelling, Jonathan Kevin Sampaio, Miguel Iglesias, Vlada R, Luca B and Cory Bond.
Define an iconic menswear brand like Dolce&Gabbana in just three words proved to be a difficult exercise… We need more than 3 words… A book, maybe, to describe a brand that manages to combine sex appeal and sophistication, casual and elegance, classicism and eccentricity.

How to Buy (and Apply) Fragrance

Think small.
The life span of a bottle of cologne is one year. Even if you haven't gone through the whole thing, after twelve months buy a fresh one; you don't want to wear a stale fragrance.

Test in increments.
When shopping for a fragrance, try two at a time at the most, one on each arm. Sniff your shirtsleeve between tests to clear your palate.

Keep it simple.
Leave spraying wrists and other pulse points to the ladies. One hit on each side of your neck will do.

Rotate scents.
Like your wardrobe, your scent should change with the seasons. In the warmer months, wear a small amount of a lighter, fresher scent; in winter, heavier scents like musks in slightly larger doses are appropriate.

How to Take Care of Your Skin

Looking good means more than dressing well. As GQ's ultimate grooming guide explains, it means taking care of your skin, knowing the difference between an exfoliator and a peel (and why you should be using both), the secret to a perfect shave (hint: go with the grain), and why that bar soap you're currently using just won't cut it

A Bath-and-Body Line You Can Both Use
Surrendering half your medicine cabinet to your girlfriend or wife poses two problems: (1) It's never half. (2) The real estate you have retained only shrinks as the months progress. To save space (and possibly your relationship), stock Malin+Goetz, the best unisex skin-and-hair-care line on the market. Unlike many of its one-for-all competitors, the New York-based company doesn't incorporate drying detergents or synthetic fragrances into its products. Translation? Neither you nor your woman is going to leave the shower smelling like the perfume counter at the mall. But you will get a welcoming whiff of natural ingredients like peppermint, grapefruit, and honey, found in the shampoo ($20), face cleanser ($30), and body moisturizer ($36, all at www.malinandgoetz.com). Now, if only she would stop using your razor.—CAROLINE CALLAHAN

The Seven-Minute Facial
I found Earthen InstantPeel six years ago in a pharmacy in New York, where the saleswoman convinced me that a box of six packets was worth the cash. She was right. I ripped one open, applied the contents, and seven minutes later, my grayish complexion was replaced with a glowing one. And unlike most facial peels, this one doesn't leave your skin dry. It leaves it looking five years younger. $50 at www.blissworld.com—JIM MOORE

The One Teeth Whitener that Works
Like its predecessor, GoSMILE's new Advanced Formula B1 comes in those slick, pocket-size glass tubes. Only now they're packing a beefed-up bleach that whitens your teeth up to ten shades in just seven days (versus six shades in fourteen days for the original). The new version is so strong that GoSMILE founder Jonathan Levine, D.M.D., recommends you use it only twice a year. It's designed not to irritate gums, but we did feel a pang of discomfort when we applied each ampoule. Regardless, it's still the only at-home teeth-whitening product we've found that produces results. $85 at www.gosmile.com—MEREDITH BRYAN

Why You Should Buy the Good Stuff

Anthony Sport Body Bar
Generic soap often contains detergents that dry out skin. This two-in-one bar not only moisturizes but exfoliates as well. $14 at www.anthony.com

Jack Black Intense Therapy Lip Balm
Wax-based lip balms typically offer an SPF level of 4. This cooling mint version is SPF 25 and doesn't give off a sheen. $6.50 at www.getjackblack.com

Clinique M Protect SPF 21
A body lotion is fine for your arms, but because of its high oil content, it can lead to breakouts when applied to your face. Instead, use a face moisturizer with an SPF. $20 at www.clinique.com

Bullie Close Shave
Most low-grade shaving creams do not keep your skin protected during shaving and do little to decrease friction, which contributes to razor burn. In Bullie's nonfoaming formula, eucalyptus acts as an antiseptic to help curb breakouts, and tea-tree oil prevents irritation. $16 at www.amazon.com—CANDICE RAINEY

The Deal with Exfoliating: Why It's Not Just for Your Spa-Obsessed Girlfriend

If you have flawless, soft-as-a-baby's-butt skin, then no, you don't need to exfoliate. But for the rest of us, exfoliating is a quick way to get rid of dead cells that build up on the surface of our skin, clogging our pores. Not only does exfoliating smooth and brighten your complexion on the spot, it also acts as the perfect preshave treatment because it helps prevent ingrown hairs by lifting whiskers away from the skin. Here's everything else you should know about exfoliating:

Get the Right One for You
There are two kinds of exfoliators. The first is mechanical, which is made up of tiny granules that when rubbed gently onto the skin, dislodge and lift away dead skin. The second is chemical, which is usually reserved for the face and uses mild acids like alpha hydroxy to dissolve dead skin cells. Either way, choose a product that is conducive to your skin type, meaning dry, oily, sensitive, etc. Finally, know the difference between exfoliators made for your face and the ones meant for your body. Some are mild enough that they can be used on both, but a body-specific product is often too potent for your face.

For Your Face
Exfoliate once a week. Clean your face and then gently work a small amount of product onto your damp skin, rubbing in small circular motions for one to two minutes. Rinse until clean. And always use a moisturizer when you're done, since exfoliating can leave your skin drier than normal.

For Your Body
When exfoliating, you don't have to be as delicate with your legs and arms as you are with your face. Which is why you want to opt for a scrub with a hardy granule to it—like sea salt or oatmeal- or sugar-based versions that really buff the skin and can be used in the shower once a week. And don't be afraid to really go at it. Think handfuls of the stuff. Once your skin is wet, rub in big circular motions and take a couple of extra minutes to focus on rough areas like the knees, elbows, and the bottoms of your feet. After you rinse off, you'll see water beading on your almost-glossy-looking skin. Finish with a body moisturizer and prepare to be amazed at how remarkably soft and smooth you feel.

How to Find a Signature Scent

SHOULD THE TWENTY-FIRST-CENTURY gentleman have a signature fragrance? There's the obvious argument against it: If you have to limit yourself to one, how can you decide between Terre d'Hermès, Fresh Cannabis Santal, or Comme des Garçons 2? But on the flip side, if you have an everyday scent, people will start to register you invisibly—and more important, remember you. The fragrance itself is the starting point, of course. Your potential olfactory fingerprint should be something you feel comfortable in and something that gets you a positive reaction. Get a couple of samples and test-drive them for a day; the right one will make people enjoy just being near you—and you should get comments to that effect. Try Rêve en Cuir by Scent Bar for niche elegance, Monsieur de Givenchy for retro greatness, or Thierry Mugler's B*Men for hipster cool. Once you've settled on one, master the application. You want a single short spray on the top of each forearm, one on the neck, and one down the back of the shirt (before you button up, pull the collar back and aim downward). Play with the volume till you get it right, remembering that the scent should be neither suffocating nor undetectable. In time, you'll have your own invisible ID and—oh yeah—one less thing to think about.

How to Get Rid of a Sunburn

Maybe you left your sunscreen in the car. Maybe you missed a spot. Maybe you were just like, Screw it, I'm going to get a tan! But instead you ended up looking like a boiled lobster. Question is, how can you reduce the pain and make your skin look less painful? One thing is to take aspirin to get rid of the inflammation, says Manhattan dermatologist Debra Jaliman. Follow up by applying a cold compress, soaked in skim milk instead of water, to draw out the heat and sting. A moisturizer containing soothing ingredients, such as Clinique's After Sun Rescue Balm (Clinique.com), will also help you cool off and keep your skin from drying out. After that? Consider a cocktail in the shade.
